Competitors Websites - What is the Competition Doing?

Competitors websitesYou may also want to have a look at your successful competitors’ websites, i.e. those that are already at the top of the rankings for the keywords you are targeting.

We are not suggesting that you infringe their copyright but you can check the source code for their websites to see what is working for them.

The easy way to look at the source code is to right click on the web page. A list of options will be displayed one of which is "View Source". Select this and a new window will open, which shows the source code for that page.

At the top of the code you should see the "head" section, the page title and the Meta content. On our Caledan Trade Training website it may look something like...

<head>
<title> Trade Training Manchester for plumbers, builders, electricians and joiners </title>
<meta name="Description" content="Comprehensive trade training in different disciplines at reasonable prices in our Manchester Training Centre."/>
<meta name="Keywords" content="Manchester, trade training, plumbing training, electrical training, joinery training, builders' training, training courses, trade training courses" />

Viewing SourceCompetitor's Websites - Viewing Page Source Code

Some websites disable your mouse right click function in an effort stop people looking at their source code. The problem with this is that by publishing a website to the Internet, you make it available in its entirety to anyone who is viewing it.

This means that you can still view the source of a page and see what your competitors are doing by going to the "View" menu option at the top of the screen and selecting "Source".

The image to the right shows how to do this using the Firefox browser. The process is very similar if you are using Internet Explorer or one of the other browsers.
