This SEO example using the fictional "Caledan Trade Training Company" should help to illustrate what you can do with regards to search engine optimisation. With traditional advertising costs riding steadily it is very important that you maximise all of the opportunities you have to generate business and enquiries through your website. The SEO process (Search Engine Optimisation) is extremely complex and it takes weeks of study to fully understand what is happening. This example of SEO will not make you a SEO expert but it takes you through a series of checks and actions that are probably all you need at this stage.
SEO Example - Before Starting
Before starting we assume that since you have built your own website you know and understand how to change it so that you can see this improvement in traffic. If you have not done anything about SEO then by reading and following the SEO instructions listed in the example website you are almost guaranteed to see an improvement. Note that SEO is often described as being "Black Hat" or "White Hat". Black Hat SEO uses shady, risky techniques designed to fool the search engines into ranking a website to a position higher than it deserves.
We do not use these techniques. They can work but when the search engines discover that a website has been using them they will penalise this site or perhaps completely remove it from their indices. Too risky!

We shall demonstrate the basic SEO techniques that you need to use on site like this.
We shall be discussing the optimisation of this website to get found by people searching for these services on Google. The primary key phrase being targeted is "trade training" with others such as "training as a plumber", "training as an electrician" and "training as a joiner".
The fictional company and domain name on the SEO example website will be www.caledantradetraining.com.
