Cost of SEO
I think it would be fair to say that many of the people involved in SEO are, shall we say, not the most concerned about ethics. In many cases the cost of SEO is determined by what the people who are doing it think they can get away with charging. SEO prices are therefore not standard and hard to quantify.
At our main business, Toucher Website Design, the cost of the initial SEO for a small website may add as little as $150 to the overall cost of the website. This will include all the onsite factors that are discussed in here.
The cost of an SEO campaign on a website that has already been launched will be much more depending on what it entails. Typically it would involve some sort of link building and perhaps deeper research into the keywords and subject matter of the website.
Cost of Ongoing SEO
SEO charges also often include monthly fees for ongoing promotion, link building and checking of the visitor statistics for the website. In some cases these costs can be very significant. SEO companies will happily take $1K or more per month for even a small ongoing SEO contract. In some cases they charge high sums from unsuspecting clients who do not understand the processes involved.
What Should You Pay for SEO?
In deciding if SEO charges are fair and reasonable you should check to see if the SEO company you are dealing with has a verifiable track record. Do not be afraid to contact people in their portfolio to ensure that testimonials are genuine. Do the research.
You should also know exactly what they are doing for the money you are paying them so get an agreement with them and ensure that they specify what SEO tasks you are paying for. If you have an ongoing campaign insist on monthly reports that outline what they have done for you.
